Catherine Armstrong

is a lecturer in American history at Loughborough University in Leicestershire, England. A historian of colonial North America and the United States in the 18th and 19th centuries, her main area of focus is the relationship between representations of the landscape and a changing conception of identity in migrant groups. Armstrong’s research reflects an interest in oral history as a therapeutic tool and explores how reminiscing might be used to improve the wellbeing of isolated elderly people. She is also leading a project which will gather the histories and memories of members of the transgender community of the East Midlands in England, working in collaboration with academic and non-academic partners.
